I am looking for history on a rocking chair with a label "Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company" Chicago, Il on the bottom. I have found quite a bit of information on rattan and wicker products mfrd by Heywood/wakefield, but this chair is wood (cherry I think), with a leather seat and intricate dragon type design on the top of the back. We can date the chair back to at least the early 1920's if not before. Where can I get photos or history of the chair in order to begin to appraise? Thanks. | |

Dear scooby30-ga; Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question. Since my last post I have continued looking and have actually managed to find the book in paperback for only $11.29 ! (About half the price of the earlier one I found in hardback): HEYWOOD-WAKEFIELD MODERN FURNITURE (PAPERBACK) http://www.epinions.com/Heywood_Wakefield_Modern_Furniture_by_Steven_Rouland_and_by_Roger_W_Rouland Here the book is offered for $13.19: HEYWOOD-WAKEFIELD MODERN FURNITURE (PAPERBACK) http://www.bestprices.com/cgi-bin/vlink/0891456244BT This book is said to be THE guide for Heywood-Wakefield furniture owners. It traces 100 years of furniture manufactured and sold by the company and even provides some historical background. This identification and value guide gives a detailed history of the company and then goes on to chronicle the various styles that made the company famous all thru the mid-twentieth century. It shows hundreds of original catalog reprints giving exact measurements, yardage needed for upholstered goods, and provenance regarding which designer worked on their pieces. All of the style numbers referenced from our web site come from this reference guide. ?A must-have for any serious Heywood-Wakefield afficianiado!? TRI-STATE ANTIQUES http://tri-stateantiques.com/hwbook.html I?ve got my fingers crossed that you will find your piece in this book and that it?s worth a million dollars! (Realistically it probably won?t be worth a million bucks, but it doesn?t hurt to wish, does it?). I appreciate your spirit of cooperation and your understanding that not all questions "can" be answered. Sometimes a researcher can only help a customer who is willing to help himself and TOGETHER the answer is found. I really admire that in a customer. I hope you find that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any questions about my research please post a clarification request prior to rating the answer. Otherwise I welcome your rating and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us. Best regards; Tutuzdad-ga ?
