Question ID: 403960
i have been a subscriber of a clip art web-based collection called
"clipart.com". i really liked their collection of images and the fast
interface.
lately, the wesite changed. mmany (maybe even all) of the images that
used to be there were deleted. others replacing them. today i realized
that the company that runs the site has a different e-mail address:
"jupiterimages.com" instead of the old "clipart.com".
do you know if the site cahnge hands? and more important: do you know
if the old guys run another site where some of the vanished images may
be available? i am looking in particular for a studio called Littleman
(??) who had some few hundred images on "clipart.com"
thank you

Dear yudaph-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting question.

Clipart.com did in fact ?change hands? as you put it, and the ?old
guys? were entirely bought out and are now nowhere to be found (as
you?ll see they?re probably on a private yacht about now somewhere in
the Caribbean).

In July 2003 Junipermedia Corporation purchased all of the shares of
ArtToday, Inc. from International Microcomputer Software, Inc. for
$13.0 million in cash, 250,000 restricted shares of Jupitermedia
common stock and an earn-out that could result in an additional $4.0
million in cash consideration over the next two years. Everything that
was once ArtToday.com is not part of the Junipermedia catalogue, and
since ArtToday, Inc operated a number of clipart sites including
Clipart.com, the largest subscription-based graphics resource on the
Web Junipermedia swallowed those up in the deal too.

Apparently the new company has been selective thus far as to what
images in the acquisition it chooses to offer on the revamped site
since ArtToday is now being resurrected as ?JupiterImages?

As the astute commenter noted I occassionally misstated JUPITER as
JUNIPER in my answer. She is correct about my error. I apologize for
any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused. Where "Juniper",
"JuniperImages" and "Junipermedia" were mentioned, this should indeed
have read "Jupiter", JupiterImages" and "Jupitermedia".

Nice information, tutuzdad.

They already own a myriad of tech sites that are over-used for
advertising. Now, they'll use that web for advertising too, I
supposed. Yuk! I liked clipart.com too.

Also, I just wanted to say that I thought that everywhere that
tutuzdad says Juniper, he/she means Jupiter. But it would be a mistake
I'd make, since I live just off Juniper, not Jupiter, as my husband
would have you believe. :)
