What is the best way to convert 2-1/4 x 2-1/4 slides to a digital
format. I have thousands of slides so a professinal service would be
cost prohibitive. I am willing to spend the money and put in the
time. What are my options for less than $1000

Hi Robeanhead,

The best and the only way for you to digitize your medium format
slides is to scan them by using the right equipment and software. You
have a lot of options for less than $1000 and I can point you to some
good and easy to use scanners. I need to know if you have preference
towards a certain brand (Epson, HP, Canon, etc.) and how many examples
you want. It would also help if you give me info about your system
(OS, RAM, hard drive capacity, etc.) for compatibility and performance
issues.

Regards,
Feilong

I don't have a preference on a particular brand. I would prefer one
that easy to use, reliable with good results. I dont want to spend 30
minutes per scan. My computer is a P3 512 running xp with 250
external hd

The brands I mentioned above are brands that I've used before and I
know that they are easy to use. I also visited other quality scanner
brands like HP, Canon, and Mustek. I didn't mention them because I
can't find clear mention of their capacity to handle medium format
slides.

In case you need product reviews as an additional reference on which
to base your decision here's one reliable source -- CNET Reviews. I
trust CNET for their reviews. I always base my decision from their
reviews before I buy a computer peripheral.

If you ask me I'd choose the Epson Perfection 4870 PHOTO because
you'll get the performance and quality you need and expect from the
4870 PRO for $100 less. I own an Epson scanner and I know that this
brand delivers great result, has excellent software/driver support,
and is user-friendly. Again, you always have the final decision and
only you can decide what's best for you.

I know this is an old posting, but I have the same dilema; however,
all of my slides are mounted. Any idea how to do this without buying
a 2000 dollar scanner?

I was hoping that there was an adapter for mounted slides; most of the
printers just have adapters for negatives and "positives".

Thanks
