Hello wise experts.
Our organization is putting together an educational video archive.
We are running a Linux server running Apache version 1.3.31 (Unix)
with PERL version 5.8.1 and PHP 4.3.8. I can supply the list of
Installed Perl Modules on the box and the server MIME Types settings
if needed for the answer.
We don?t consider purchasing a window media server or any other
server. We will be happy providing our users with progressive video
download view options.
Our current video formats are WMV, MPEG and MOV.
Here is the problem. MAC OX users and some windows users can?t access
and view the videos, probably as a result of CODEC incompatibilities,
or lack of CODEC on the user?s machine. The most common error that the
user MAC OS recognized the WMV files as M3U. It will fire up Itunes for
MAC users and prompt for a ?choose a program? to Windows users.
We are almost sure that the issue is at the end user, and not with our
server configurations, but we might be wrong.
We are looking for a solution to allow all our users to view the
videos with help instructions on what they have to do in order to view
them. We will need to provide them with a possible list of application
to download and which CODEC to download and install and from where.
The current system calls directly to the video file. i.e. the files
are not embedded and we do not have an associated ASF file system.
The answer should provide a free cost solution to broadcast in
progressive d/l mode the movies. To ALL OS and browser...Including a
detailed instructions on the HOW TO set up the system, and lastly
supply the encoding codec
set for Microsoft media encoder 9. and the appropriate CODEC for the
user to d/l and install.
Anyone would take on this?
I can provide live links to actual site. I offer 20$ for the answer,
and if it is not against GA policies?.a tip if the problem is solved : -)
Thank you
