I just saw the news about how some Kryptonite bicycle locks can be picked with a Bic pen. I'm gonna have to replace my locks and I'd like to know what alternative brands or competitors are out there. Please let me know who is the biggest baddest brand or manufacturer competition to Kryptonite locks that is not vulnerable to Bic pens, ie. what lock should I get? |

This might be of interest to you: http://www.usatoday.com/money/2004-09-16-bike-lock_x.htm "Kryptonite spokeswoman Donna Tocci said in a statement that the design still provides "an effective deterrent to theft," but that the company is developing new products using a pen-proof, disc-style cylinder. "We are accelerating the delivery of the new disc cylinder locks and we will communicate directly with our distributors, dealers and consumers within the coming days. The world just got tougher and so did our locks," the statement said." http://www.engadget.com/entry/7042616626204684/ "Kryptonite is responding to the media hailstorm and offering a free worldwide upgrade program for anyone who bought an Evolution lock, KryptoLok lock, New York Chain, New York Noose, Evolution Disc Lock, KryptoDisco or DFS Disc Lock in the last two years (if you?ve had it for more than two years you qualify for a "sizeable rebate"). You have to have either registered your key number, sign up for their anti-theft program, or have proof of purchase to qualify for the offer." "If you have one of their locks you can go to their site and using a number on the lock's key, register your lock. By doing that you are now allowed an upgrade or 'sizeable rebate'. Another option is you sign up for the anti-theft program (which no doubt requires proof of your ownership of one of their locks, and possibly a small fee). And, last option is you show them your reciept." |
