I tend to agree with probono. While some freedom has been lost as a
reasonable reaction to 9-11, I doubt the loss exceeded the loss under
8 years of Bill Clinton. Had Hillary Clinton's health care become law,
The USA would be well into police state.
I suggest you refer to the dictionary definition of DEMOCRACY. The
errosion of States rights in progress for more than a century, has
moved The USA farther from democracy. Neil

The U.S. is not a democracy, nor was it ever meant to be. It is a
constitutional republic, where citizens appoint representatives to
vote on the issues. The founding fathers proposed a government not
hindered by the mob rule mentality inherent with a democracy
(http://www.thenewamerican.com/tna/2000/11-06-2000/vo16no23_republic.htm).

Case in point: If we were a democracy, where every citizen were able
to vote in every issue, the practice of segregation between blacks and
whites would not have ended (at least not when it did), as the
majority of citizens were content to turn a blind eye to the problem.
