We have a site ( http://www.gospelinthestars.com ) that discusses how
the Christian Gospel message is displayed in the stars along the
Zodiac. There were apparently some books written on this topic in the
late 1800s. I'm looking for the titles and authors of these books (NOT
current books, only these 19th century titles), and wondering if any
may be found on the web.

PS. The Biblical term for the zodiac is " mazzaroth ". I think that
may be in the title of one of these books.

For the price you have offered I have managed to find only one.
Fortunately though the entire book has been published online. Would
you like me to answer your question with this source so you can read
it?

I have since found a second one that is also published in its entirety
online, but this one dates to the late 1790's. I will include this in
my answer if you like.

Hi tutuzdad,

Yep, if it is one of the 1800s books, that would be great. Post away.

Dear homeway-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question. Here are a couple of early books relative to your research:

THE RUINS OR MEDITATIONS ON THE REVOLUTIONS OF EMPIRES
By Constantin François de Volney.
(Originally published in 1791, updates were apparently made until his
death in 1820)
http://sailor.gutenberg.org/etext98/ruins10.txt
(Courtesy of the Gutenberg Project)

THE ORIGIN OF ALL RELIGIOUS WORSHIP
By Charles François Dupuis (1798, and reprinted over time)
http://www.hti.umich.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=moa;view=toc;cc=moa;start=1;idno=AJF3298.0001.001

See in particular Chapter IX, starting on page 214, titled, "An
Explanation of the Fable, in which the Sun is worshipped under the
name of Christ" Also see Chapter XII, starting on page 408, which
gives the Astral Mythology explanation of the Book of Revelation [The
Apocalypse] and the author?s assertion that The Book of Revelation is
primarily Solar Mythology.

Thanks for the references. I had not heard of either of these works
before. There may be others (I know they were first published in the
late 1800s) but this will keep me busy for a good while.

for Homeway; The Bible does NOT promote the Zodiac and all it
represents. Deuteronomy chapter 18 verse 9 starts off.."When you are
entered into the land that Jehovah your God [ Jehovah=God`s name,
pSALM 83;18][ God=title] is giving you, you must NOT learn to do
according to the DETESTABLE things of those nations. verse 10. There
should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter
pass through the fire [child sacrifice by pagan nations], anyone who
employs divination, a practiser of magic, or anyone who looks for
omens or a sorcerer. Verse 11. Or one who binds another with a spell,
or anyone who consults a spirit medium, or a professional [fee
collecting] foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead.
verse 12. FOR EVERYBODY DOING THESE THINGS IS SOMETHING DETESTABLE TO
JEHOVAH.
Its up to each of us as to what we do with our free will. Follow the
ideas of some person or read and obey the scriptures. A good reminder
is at Isaiah 5;20.."Woe to those who are saying that good is bad and
bad is good".

Hi pugwashjw,

No offense to you, but you are barking up the wrong tree here. You are
100% correct - The Bible clearly condemns astrology and other
divination, but that is not what this study is about at all. Many
stars in the heavens are given names in the scriptures. Together, they
(the meanings of these names) are signposts which proclaim a message
of the Gospel. Please take a look at www.gospelinthestars.com, listen
to the brief intro, and realize that this is a very different message
indeed.

I asked my Israeli office mate about the Hebrew word for zodiac. He says that:

"Mazzalot is zodiac, each symbol (leo, virgo etc) is Mazzal, and
plural is mazzalot."

He also says that mazzal really means "luck" but that the plural is
used "only in the connotation of zodiac."

no, the word is "Mazzaroth", as in Job 38:32:

"Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in its season?"

Hi Homeway, I am at a loss to find any biblical scripture which links
the reason for Jesus` time on this earth [ to preach/teach the " Good
News of the Kingdom"] with the zodiac, or configuration of stars in
the heavens that man has claimed to look like a familiar object,
Archer, Goat etc. The early Hebrews and the Egyptians knew the heavens
well and probably used them for navigation, but the Hebrews
themselves, obeying the directions of God, would not have worshipped
all or part of the zodiac. The difference is between Astrology and
Astronomy, the former being banned and the latter accepted. The
Hebrews [ Jews] accepted that God created the heavens they could see
and appreciated them.
