How reputable is Valenti International as a matchmaking service? I
don't mind spending money to find "the right guy," but I want to make
sure that the company is legit.

Valenti in my experience is quite a rip-off.  My friend, who is young,
well-educated  and stunning paid $9000 to Valenti to help her find the
perfect match.  She mentioned in the interview that she is willing to
relocate to any city which is a source of cultural and economic
growth.  She was introduced to a guy who lived in a small Texas city
known as "isolation station", 6 months later they introduced her to a
young man employed by the coastguard who's financial background did
not check out and was completely disassociated with the preferences
marked in her questionnair and interviews.  These kinds of women do
not spend money to be set up with guys they could easily find by
themselves at any local bar- they are looking for something greater
than that.

A male colleague of mine was also ripped off, they seem to only
introduce you to one or two people a year(!) and completely ignore the
criteria specified by their members- they for instance refuse to tell
you the age of your match (because it's often outside your search
criteria).  They refused to refund his money so he put up a website
ihatevalenti.com where people could post their bad experiences with
Valenti.  Once the site was up Irene Valenti was very quick to call
and offer a refund in exchange for taking down the site which he did. 
I am sure a lucky few may have luck with Valenti but the majority does
not and they are not very concerned with their members once they have
talked them into joining.  Please post if you did in fact have any
luck with them!
