After a pop up ad came on, the screen went blank for short time and
came back. We can not get on internet now, using cable modem. Another
computer in the house on the network can get on the internet. When the
computer is booted, a message comes on about "can not find
precisiontime.ink". We have Nuker spyware killer and Norton Anti
virus, and have utilized both. Still can not get on the internet. What
is the problem?

Hi recyclephil,

I'm sure that you've picked up some adware/spyware somewhere along the
way - do you by any chance have Gator?

eTrust PestPatrol Pest Encyclopedia:
Full description with manual removal instructions:
http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/p/precisiontime.asp

Got the Gator? Want to Get Rid of Gator? Step-by-Step Instructions
Precision Time
"How did you get Precision Time? It might have been a box like this.
It's a fake. Read it carefully, read them all carefully. If it is a
popup it is an advertisment for something. They don't really want to
help you."
http://www.mandarindesign.com/gator.html

I suggest that you follow the excellent tutorial at the following website:

KRC Anti-Spyware Tutorial
http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

At the very least, you will run the following four programs (using the
instructions at KRC) in the order given.

1) Run HouseCall, a very thorough online virus scan:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Download and run the following programs ("check for updates" before scanning):

2) CWShredder:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/coolwebshredder.htmls

2) Adaware
http://lavasoft.element5.com/default.shtml.en

4) SpyBot
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

That may be enough to cure your problem (it doesn't hurt to run them
all again when you are finished). To be sure you've gotten everything,
you may want to post a HijackThis log to one of the speciality forums.

5) HijackThis:
http://www.spychecker.com/download/download_hijackthis.html

Here are two good forums to post the log to:

Castle Cops: Hijackthis - Spyware, Viruses, Worms, Trojans Oh My!
http://computercops.biz/forums.html

Tech Support Forums: Security Anti-virus HiJackThis:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/index.php?

I'm confident all will be well soon. If you have any questions, or if
this hasn't solved your problem, please post a clarification request
*before* closing/rating my answer and I'll be happy to reply.

Thank you and good luck,
hummer

Part of the reason you may not have been able to find a solution is
that the file extension would be LNK and not INK.

An LNK file is a SHORTCUT file. For instance, the shortcuts on your
desktop that launch programs (the shortcuts are the ones with arrows
on them) are LNK files (LNK, like "link").

Hope that helps!
