I thought I would write my question over to inform you of the information that I didn't give you. I am trying to purify a protein and I want to use FRACTIONATION as one of the steps in the process. After the protein is broken up, it is given over to fractionation for further purification. If this is not enough information please let me know. | |

You can fractionate proteins based on any of their characteristics. Comonly used criteria are size, pI, charge, hydrophobicity and S value. Techniques include centrifugation, electrophoresis, chromatography, solubility, immunology... In order to know how pure your sample is you will need some way of identifying the protein of interest as well as the total ampount of protein at each step. |
