What happened to the guy that killed my brother? What was his name?
What charge and sentence did he receive? (It is sad but true that I do not
the answer to this) Are there records that I can get or read concerning this?

My brother was shot in the head and killed in Georgia by his
brother-in-law during a "drunken fight". (Mark had a high alcohol
blood level at the time of death.)This happened in the fall - early
october I believe - around 1988. I did not follow the court
proceedings and do not know what type of a sentence, if any, his
murderer was given. I don't know the town - though I believe it was
around Atlanta. (Mark was examined by a "medical examiner" - they
held his body for almost a week.) I don't know his brother-in-law's
name. Mark was 30
at the time of his death. He was born on Long Island, New York around
1958. Place of birth is probably listed as Amityville, NY(as mine is).
Our family lived in West Islip at the time of his birth. Mark's full
name is Mark Lowell Schroder. He lived, and was buried, in Ocala,
Florida. Ocala Star Banner ran an obituary (Ocala, Florida). If you
run across the information, I would like to know the address where my
brother is buried.

ohmmmmmmm7-ga,

I'm afraid that my research so far can only add to the unknowns of the
sad circumstances surrounding your brother's demise.

Most of the deaths that occur in the US at least since the 1960's are
recorded in a government database, the Social Security Death Index. I
checked the SSDI, but found nothing remotely resembling the name and
timing and place you described (there were some Mark Schroder's and
Schroeder's in the database, but the dates and places were wrong).

I also searched several comprehensive newspaper databases, and again,
no mention of the either the barroom killing or any subsequent events.

Is it possible that your brother was known by another name, or used a
different spelling for any of his given names?

Any additional bits and pieces of information you can provide us may
help to track down some threads of the story, and perhaps provide you
with the information you're seeking.

Let us know.

Don't know if you saw this comment that was posted. Looks right.
Right time (guess) right place. This should REALLY be helpful. Now to
who killed him .. etc.

Hello, I am not a google researcher. I checked my Ancestry.com
database and found a Mark L Schroder listed in the Georgia Death Index
as dying on Oct. 7, 1989. The county of death is Decatur and his
residence is listed as Franklin County. It shows a number 037979 which
I assume is the death certificate number. You could order a copy of
the death certificate from the State of Georgia. In most states the
autopsy report would come from the county of death coroner's office
(Decatur). Good luck

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'll look into it a bit
more, and see if I can unearth anything useful.

Stay tuned....
