adlaxmi-ga,

Google Answers researchers cannot post full magazine articles as an
answer to a question, since the articles are protected by copyright.

However, it may be possible to identify the date of the issue in which
the article appeared, and you could then seek the assitance of a
librarian to get a copy of the original article.

Would that be a satisfactory answer to your question?

Let us know.

Yes the article should be about Swami Muktananda, his sexual misconduct
and Siddha Foundations attempts to bribe Rolling Stone magazine.
As I said it should be late 70's early eighties.
Can you tell me how to look up the article, once I know the date??
Do regular libraries have these kinds of articles stored??
   Thanks,
 A

Hmmm...the good Swami received some press in the late 1970's, but I'm
not picking up anything from rolling Stone.

Along with a lot of newspaper coverage, there were these two magazine
articles that included coverage of Swami Muktananda:

Master of Ganeshpuri [Swami Muktananda]. Harper's May 1977

Instant energy. Time July 26 1976

Are you certain that the article you're looking for appeared in
Rolling Stone? Any additional information you can provide (how did
you hear of it, for instance...) would be helpful in further
researching this question.

Thanks.

I heard of the article from a friend,he had a client that mentioned the article.
A while back I heard the same article was from the New Yorker.
I have tried to also find evidence of a law suit against him that
never was served because he died,
He was accused of molesting children, boys and girls.
I know for a fact he molested teens and young women because I was
one of them.I am now older and recovering from the PTSD. I have made
my story public, but the other women I know, and have tried to get to
come forward are still too afraid of Siddha Foundation to go public.
Siddha sent people to my home town after I release my story to try to
get me to be quiet.
So ANYTHING that can be found will help. Many hundreds have left
Siddha Yoga and are trying to put together information to help others
open their eyes and get out before more damage is done. There is
financial abuse, and many other problems w/ SYDA besides the sexual
abuses by Muk and other SY teachers still alive.
So if you can help me find other information it would be great. The
information on www.leavingsiddhayoga.net is known of course. My story
is published there,as well as a legal document in California.
   Thanks A

Adlaxmi-GA:

I'm finding much the same thing as Pafalafa-GA. Often publications
aren't indexed in any good online sources before 1995; about the
farthest back most go is 1980 (e.g., The New Yorker). For times
before that you're relying on Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature,
which is at virtually every U.S. public library. The library's
individual policy will determine whether the magazine; the magazine on
microfilm; or the magazine online are available -- and as you can
imagine, some libraries specialize in topics like business or music.

All of that said, Rolling Stone is covered by the Reader's Guide
during the 1974-1985 period and there's no mention of Muktananda in
the Reader's Guide index for that magazine. There are some critical
pieces in something called CoEvolution Quarterly, which includes two
articles -- and one from a former disciple.

Also, a more recent article in Psychology Today reports that
Muktananda "was widely rumored to be a pedophile, initiating young
girls in sex -- apparently choosing them from a six-bed dormitory
called the Princess Dorm."

We can provide these references if you find them worthwhile. From
there you'll want to assess the resources of the best public and/or
university libraries near you.

Best regards,

Omnivorous-GA

Adlaxmi --

I'm wondering if the story might not have emerged in one of the
biographical accounts of the life of Jann Wenner?

I did a quick search on Amazon for books written by or about Wenner,
the publisher of Rolling Stone:

Hi there -

You mentioned that you thought there might have been an article in the
New Yorker... I found this one:

The New Yorker, Nov 14, 1994 v70 n37 p92(16)
O guru, guru, guru. (sex scandal at meditation center) Lis Harris.

Is that what you're looking for?

Perhaps the article you're looking for is this one:

The secret life of Swami Muktananda: the politics of religion.
CoEvolution Quarterly
Winter 1983
