Ok, my fiance` and I are planning on getting married 4-30-05 in
Pittsburgh, PA, but are having a get deal of difficulty finding a
reception hall that we like. Hopefully someone can succeed where we
have failed...
DETAILS:
1. The ceremony will be held at Heinz Chapel (1212 Cathedral of Learning
Pittsburgh, PA 15260 - http://www.discover.pitt.edu/chapel/index.html)
at 12:30 PM. We are expecting the reception to follow immediately
afterwards (so around 1:30-2 PM, depending on distance to the
reception site).
2. We are expecting around 65 people (headcount max - 75, min - 50).
There will be no children.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
(the hard part)
1. The reception site must be no more than 40 min. away by car.
2. THE SITE MUST BE UNIQUE - a least a little. It's not as bad as it
sounds - by "unique" we essentially mean no firehalls or hotels.
Everyone has their wedding reception in either a firehall or a hotel.
We want something different (and that looks nice, of course!).
3. It must be able to accomodate the guests comfortably, while still
leaving sufficient room for dancing, without making everyone feel
dwarfed in a huge site (although we are willing to consider larger
halls if they are particulary interesting).
4. We can't afford to pay an arm and a leg for the site rental (since
there's still food, alcohol, and whatnot on top of the rental cost),
so the reception site rental fee shouldn't be above $2,000. (Please
note: That's a little higher than the average rental cost that I've
seen online. If my estimate if too low, please let me know.)
5. We must be able to have alcohol there, whether the site provides it
or we bring it ourselves.
6. The site must be able to provide vegetarian dishes. (While we
would prefer if the site has they're own caterers, it is not required.
We just need to be able to accomodate the handful of vegetarians -
not vegans - who will be attending.).
7. Please just remember that we are expecting approxiamtely 65 people
as certain sites have. Some sites have a minimum or maximum number of
required guests that we may not be able to fulfill.
PLACES WE HAVE ALREADY CONSIDERED:
1. Chesterfield's Restaurant, Irwin, PA
-The area for our party size was too small and didn't provide enough
room for dancing. Appearance-wise it was kinda OK, though.
2. Phipps Conservatory, Pittsburgh, PA
-While we would have loved to have the reception here, they don't have
private functions until after 6:30 PM.

3. The Morning Glory Inn Bed & Breakfast, Pittsburgh, PA
-While very pretty, it didn't even have a main room large enough for
groups of people to gather in, let alone set up a dance floor (and we
don't trust the Pittsburgh spring weather enough to plan to use their
outdoor courtyard for it.)

4. Gateway Clipper Fleet (private rental), Pittsburgh, PA
-From the estimates that we have received, this will be out of our
price range. If we're wrong, though, we'd definietely consider it.

5. Springwood Manor and Villa, Verona, PA
-It's a gorgeous place, but unfortunately it's already booked for our
date. It's almost pretty enough to make us want to change the wedding
date to get it!

Please help us! We're getting a little on the desperate side here.
So, if you find a place that we really like, we'll probably even tip
extra for your effort. |
