Provide three or four examples of video games that are being developed
(or used) primarily for political purposes. (i.e. America's Army is a
popular video game that, in fact, was developed as a way to recruit
players into the U.S. Army.) Each of the examples should have a brief
description of the game and some sort of audio I can listen to online
(either WAV file or a downloadable demo of the game).

Hello again Jhabley,

Advergaming is the practice of using games, particularly computer
games, to advertise or promote a product, organization or viewpoint.

?The subjects may be commercial or political. Examples of the second
form of game include America's Army, intended to boost recruitment for
the U.S. Army, and Special Force, intended to promote Arab resistance
to the state of Israel.?

The Games

?When Hezbollah's Special Force became available in stores in the
Middle East in February, the group joined the United States Army and
the West Virginia-based National Alliance among the growing ranks of
organizations now using games to spread political messages and recruit
new members.?

Ethnic Cleansing

?Take Ethnic Cleansing. The game begins as a player emerges from a
"ghetto crack house," shooting into a thicket of brown-skinned
opponents who scream like apes when they're hit. The protagonist ? a
hooded Klansman or neo-Nazi skinhead ? proceeds through 10 levels
choked with racist posters and symbols, gunning down caricatured Jews
and Latinos.

Special Force and Under Ash

?Hezbollah's new game, Special Force, and Syrian publisher Dar
al-Fikr's Under Ash have generated considerably more publicity among
gamers. The first two games in Arabic to rank technologically with
popular English-language titles, both feature Palestinian protagonists
doing battle with Israeli soldiers and settlers.?

Hezbollah Special Force

?The terrorist group Hezbollah, backed by Iran and based in southern
Lebanon, has begun marketing a computer game simulating attacks on
Israeli soldiers and allowing target practice using Israeli officials
such as Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.?

The game, "Special Force," took two years of development by the
Hezbollah Central Internet Bureau.

(. . .)

?The game places players in different stages of Hezbollah operations
against the Jewish state. Players face the same conditions as
Hezbollah terrorists, including geographic locations, mines, the
number of Israeli troops and even the weather conditions.?

(. . .)

?On the cover of the game's box, a message to users says "the
designers of Special Force are very proud to provide you with this
special product, which embodies objectively the defeat of the Israeli
enemy and the heroic actions taken by heroes of the Islamic Resistance
in Lebanon." It adds: "Be a partner in the victory. Fight, resist and
destroy your enemy in the game of force and victory."

?Mahmoud Rayya, an official from the Hezbollah bureau said 2that the
decision to produce the game was made by top Hezbollah officials, who
believe it will help them win the international media war with
Israel.?

?Rayya said that the game would introduce the resistance to young people.?

Under Ash

?Under Ash, meanwhile, follows the character Ahmad, a young
Palestinian facing Israeli occupation during the first intifada. As
the game progresses, Ahmad goes from throwing stones at Israeli
soldiers to shooting Israeli settlers. Suicide bombings, though, are
forbidden, as is shooting civilians. Targeted at youth 13 and older,
the game is free to download.?

Under Ash is a call to justice, realizing truth, preventing wronging
and aggression.

?This idea, accompanied by the best available technology, is still
handy to our youth, trying to dry up their tears; heal their wounds;
remove all the feelings of humiliation, humbleness and wretchedness
from their souls, and draw the smile of hope and the sense of dignity
and efficiency on their faces.?

ETHNIC CLEANSING

"Ethnic Cleansing," a computer game created by neo-Nazi National
Alliance and targeted for a youthful, computer-savvy audience,
promotes violence against Jews, Blacks and Latinos. Proclaiming that
?white revolution is the only solution,? the game builds on the
premise that "the race war has begun." This game is one of a number of
racist and anti-Semitic video games easily available on the Internet.?
