What is the name of this movie. It was in color, on TV, in the late 60's early 70's. It's Not "the Flight of the Phoniex". The following was it's Plot: A World War 2 war plane crashes in the desert. The crew tries their best to get the crashed plane in order so when the rescue party comes everything will be in order. They played baseball to pass the time. Conflicts & fights between the men. At one point someone shoots a canteen & puts a hole in it. Twards the end of the movie a modern day post war plane flys over & the men think it's a rescue plane. When the modern plane lands the men of the plane wreck relize they are not going to be rescued & that they were all dead. they are ghosts & they see their graves & that canteen that got shot, when picked up was full of sand. They were dead for years & didn't know it. |

Hello. The movie was "Sole Survivor" (1970). From the Internet Movie Database: "The plane gets way off course in the Sahara and is forced to crash land. The crew stays lost in the desert for years (decades?) until they see a plane on the horizon, and successfully signal it. A rescue crew finally lands but, they can't seem to commnuicate with them..." http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065007/ "Sole Survivor (1970). Richard Basehart and William Shatner star. A B-24 navigator panics and bails out of his bomber at night over the water - however he fails to the pilot about a tailwind and the crew and plane ends up deep in the Libyan desert where they die. 15 Years later the plane is found and the story takes on haunting tone as the story is told from the perspective of the crew (as ghosts), the navigator and the investigators." source: Taphilo.com War Movies http://www.taphilo.com/history/warmovies.shtml One web page describes the film as "One of the hardest-to-find movies on the planet." http://www.montrealfood.com/dvds.html -------- search strategy: google groups: desert "been dead" movie imdb.com: "sole survivor" Google: "sole survivor" shatner desert 1970 I hope this helps. |
