Hi scobo,
Here are some things to try -
1) Do you have a java package installed?
Downloads:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/downloads/index.html
2) If you have a popup blocker installed, disable it and see if that helps.
3) Exit Ad-Subtract Pro, then delete all of your temporary internet
files (including offline content).
4) Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 281679
You cannot open a new Internet Explorer window or nothing occurs after
you click a link
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;281679
5) IE 6.0 / Internet Option / Advanced Settings /
Disable Java VM and Enable MS MV
6) Internet Options/Tools/Security/Custom Level/Enable Acting Scripting
7) Run HouseCall, a very thorough online virus scan:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
8) Scan with Ad-aware ("check for updates" before scanning):
Ad-aware

Please let me know if any of those solve it for you.
Good luck,

Hi scobo,
I performed some research on your question last night, but unlocked
the question because it was past my bedtime. :)
This is what I found:
Are javascripts enabled under security and advanced settings?
How to Enable/Disable JavaScript
http://www.buymebuyme.com/retail/help/javascript.html
The following instructions describe how to set JavaScript options for:
Mozilla, Opera, Safari, Explorer, Netscape, and AOL browsers.
For example:
Internet Explorer 6.X
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
3. In Internet Options dialog box select the Security tab.
4. Click Custom level button at bottom. The Security settings dialog
box will pop up.
5. Under Scripting category enable Active Scripting, Allow paste
options via script and Scripting of Java applets
6. Click OK twice to close out.
7. Hit Refresh.
=================================================
If that doesn't work, you might try reinstalling JavaScript.

How to Troubleshoot Java Problems in Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q168806
(Scroll to middle of page - Java Problems on All Web Sites)
=================================================
Some other fixes:
In IE6, go to Tools-> Internet Options-> Advanced-> under Browsing,
uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" Click Apply-> Ok->
Exit IE6-> then Restart IE6.
It could be something as simple as emptying the Temporary Internet
Files folder. Go to Tools-> Internet Options-> Delete Files.
Please let me know if these suggestions posted work for you.

Hi googleexpert, hummer, and tlspiegel. Sorry for the late response.
I've been trying your suggestions which have been very time
consuming:)
To answer your questions:
googleexpert asked: How do you know they are javascript links? Also,
what web browser are you using?
I think they are actually called "hyperlinks." Basically, there are
certain links in web sights that actually work, and certain ones that
are completely dead; I get no response when clicking on them.
I am using Internet Explorer 6.0 (I think).
Hummers suggestions with my replies:
1) Do you have a java package installed?
I downloaded J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 from the sight you suggested
and found no difference in performance. I'm not sure that it
installed correctly, however. Is it normal for the program to just
disappear from the screen when it finishes installing? And when I
click on the icon (which I saved to my desktop), it just starts
installing itself again.
2) If you have a popup blocker installed, disable it and see if that helps.
Didn't help.
3) Exit Ad-Subtract Pro, then delete all of your temporary internet
files (including offline content).
I don't know what Ad-Subtract Pro is, but I did delete my temporary
internet files, which didn't help.
4) Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 281679
This article was helpful and I think defined what my problem was
accurately. I tried all of the suggestions except for reinstalling
Internet Explorer (more about that below) and none of them helped.
5) IE 6.0 / Internet Option / Advanced Settings /
Disable Java VM and Enable MS MV
Didn't help.
#6 Didn't help.
7) Run HouseCall, a very thorough online virus scan:
I did this and thanks for the information about it - it found 3
viruses! Sorry I didn't write down what they were before I deleted
them. This still didn't solve my hyperlink problem though.
8) Scan with Ad-aware ("check for updates" before scanning):
I haven't done this yet but I will:)
tlspiegel:
In IE6, go to Tools-> Internet Options-> Advanced-> under Browsing,
uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" Click Apply-> Ok->
Exit IE6-> then Restart IE6
I'll try this but can you please tell me how to "restart" IE6?
So I think I've tried about everything except for reinstalling
internet explorer, which I'm really nervous about doing. Isn't it
better to try everything else first? What will this involve and how
much information will be lost (preferences, settings, etc.) from
having to reinstall?
Thank you so much for the help you guys are right on the ball!

Hi scobo,
Thanks for your terrific clarification.

I downloaded J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 from the sight you suggested

installed correctly, however. Is it normal for the program to just

Here are instructions for installing J2SE - briefly, you need to click
on the file that you downloaded to your desktop in order to install
the program.

Hi scobo,
To restart IE or any browser, you will click on the X in the far right
upper corner where you see 3 little boxes. This is at the very top of
your monitor screen. The first box is an Underline, the second box
has 2 little boxes and the third box is an X, which means you will
exit out of your browswer and go back to your desktop. The restart
your browser by clicking on the icon on your desktop.
Hope this helps!
Best regards,

Hi
I do not handle MSIE questions, but in the interest of general global
sanity will comment as follows:
First you need to determine what, what kind of hyperlinks do not do what
they should. Java and Javascript are completely different languages
and both, and other languages as well can present hyperlinks. So,
you may want to do some diagnostics first.
This search terms:javascript test
brings
http://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/GO/EXPLORIT/java/IntroJavaScript.html
this will test both, java and javascript and give you some references.
http://www.help4web.net/webmaster/Java/
http://www.help4web.net/webmaster/Java/
and so on; to switch to a different browser is not necessary,
but nor a bad idea.
