The excepted regime of administering dexamethasone to patients orally post craniotomy is 4mg 6 hourly. On the neurological ward on which i am an RN, i am being asked by my nurse unit manager, to administer the dexamethasone at 8.00, 12.00, 17.00 & 21.00 so as not to wake patients at night, this regime is leaving the patient with an 11 hour, overnight, gap between doses. Would my nurse unit manager's dexamethasone regime be affecting my patients adversely? |
