I am a financial advisor. We use a contact manager called Goldmine. The data structure is .dbf. Goldmine provides a nice Word template to place goldmine fields in Word 2003. This works fine. What I want is a way that I can automatically create a Investment Policy Statement based on data in the client's Goldmine record. For example: If a client's record in Goldmine has a field for 'objectives' (growth/income/speculation) I would like to be able to have the Word document place boilerplate text in the appropriate place that would describe what 'growth' means. Each client is different. My goal is to have about 20-30 boilerplate autotext entries (I already know how to create autotext entries) that would be placed in the document based on the data fields in Goldmine. I have a rudimentary knowledge of how to insert fields and work with forms. I just can't seem to get the autotext to be inserted. Can you help? Thanks, Fred Dent |

In this particular case, Fred, I don't think you can use autotext. Well...you don't NEED to is really the case. If you want to use autotext, it'll require a bunch of code to see what the value of the bookmark (field) is, and then place the autotext accordingly. Instead, make little doc files out of your autotext entries, and save them. Then, use an IF and INCLUDETEXT field. Please see this MSDN article written by Word MVP, Cindy Meister: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnovba00/html/MailMergePartII.asp Everyone seems to put how they found their answers. Well, whenever it's mail merge or form fields, I do a google search for: Meister Merge :) I'm not a researcher...so if this answers your question, it's on me. |

Thanks! That was a big help. I would love to find someone to pay to help me develop the document. It would keep me from having to reinvent the wheel. However, I can't seem to find any Word specialists who offer this service for hire. If anyone knows one, please advise. Thanks, fred |

Me. www.vbaexpress.com/contact.htm But I'm not sure if I'm allowed to *sell* my own consulting services here. |
