Kant's Categorical imperative states that one should 'Act only on that maxim which you can at the same time will to become a universal law.' 'I ought to do my own homework' is clearly a maxim which falls under the categorical imperative. Now go and consider which maxims can be generated about organ donation. The key work is Kant's 'Groundwork to the Metaphysics of Morals' (also translated as the 'Foundation to the Metaphysics of Morals'). There is also a translation and commentary by A J Paton, called 'The Moral Law'. |
