I think we still need more clarification: are you talking about
vertebrate animals, or vertebrae (the bones of the spine)? If the
former, at what taxonomic level are you considering (species, genus,
family, order etc)? For example, voles are vertebrate animals that
start with a v. Vulpes vulpes is (or was, depending on your reference)
the "scientific" name of the red fox. Microtus xanthognathus is the
yellow-cheeked vole, to give you a v and an x. Family Viverridae are
the civets and genets. Order Xenarthra are the Edentate families.
If vertebrae, I don't think there are any vertebrae named that start
with v or x (at least in humans). The ones (or at least the vertebral
structures) that do have names are the atlas, axis, sacrum, and
coccyx. The other vertebrae are distinguished by the region (cervical,
thoracic, or lumbar) and number. For example, the third thoracic
vertebrae can be referred to as T3. |
