I would like to find out what the various value/supply chains are for
the consumer electronics industry. SPECIFICALLY, I am interested in
how these "merchants" interact with ODM (original design
manufacturing) and EMS (electronic manufacturing service) companies
located in Asia (Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, etc.). Here are the
questions:

(1) How do the following "merchants" purchase products: Wal-Mart
(brick & mortar), Oregon Scientific (online), Wild Bird Center
(franchise), a generic electronics store near Times Square, NY (small
business)? Please substitute companies if you feel appropriate or add
if I missed a specific type of company.

(2) Who do the "merchants" deal with to get products (a flowchart
would be ideal to show the chain of involved parties and the
interactions of each - ODM, EMS, middlemen, importers, exporters,
merchant, wholesalers, etc.)?

(3) Who or what department within the "merchant" is the buyer of
products, the specifier of products, the decision maker, etc.? The
answer to this question may require a separate flowchart to describe
the steps within a merchant.

Please provide references for all information, even if the reference
is ?personal knowledge?. Ideally, most of your sources would be on
the web for easy referencing and further review by myself. Based on
the answers to the questions, I will probably need assistance with
more specific questions. Lastly, this is my first time using Google?s
service, if you feel that the amount offered is too low, please
comment and provide a reason why. Thanks.
