Question ID: 407973
My new Samsung color laser printer, CLP-500N, came with 64 MB of RAM.
They offer a 128 MB memory upgrade for $499. For 1200 x 1200 dpi
formatting 192 MB or RAM would be a good start. This printer cost me
$500.

Does Samsung think that we are so ignorant or so desperate that we are
actually going to pay $499 for a 128 MB 100 pin SODIMM? Didn?t the
word get out that all of the industry giants that ventured into this
predatory/proprietary pricing strategy came to regret it in SPADES?

There was Compaq years back requiring you to purchase proprietary
rails from them to add any new drives to the case. Then there was the
Gateway fiasco where their AT case would not accept standard full size
expansion cards, but would accept a variety of 3/4 scale expansion
cards available, or course, from your friends at Gateway.

Dumb move Samsung. This is probably the last Samsung product that I
will every purchase. I guess I will always wonder if this
predatory/proprietary rip off the customer at any price thinking
doesn?t pervade their entire corporate culture.

panglossmd-ga:

Can you clarify what it is you are looking for as an Answer?

Are you simply looking for sources of 100-pin DIMMs that match your
printer's size and specifications? If so, I can provide you with links
to online retailers who sell such products for less than US$70.

Thanks,

I have already Goooogled the online printer memory retailers to death.
I actually purchased memory from MemoryStock online. The SODIMM fit,
the configuration recognized the 192 MB of memory installed and the
printer refused to print until the memory was removed. What lead me to
this retailer was that they came up with a perfect match for ML-00MD,
the Samsung part number for the 128 MB SODIMM.

What I am looking for is reasonably priced memory that actually works.

Surely, this opens the door for compatible memory merchants?

http://www.memoryx.net/saclprme.html seems to have memory for that
printer. I have used MemoryX before with good results, but this
doesn't totally rule out the possibility of something proprietary with
Samsung.

Perhaps you can buy a new upgraded (any brand) printer for less than
$70 and sell the Samsung printer for $20, without any upgrading.
