If you define Good as pure and innocent and evil as the intent to do something that you know is wrong then I would say we are born good and become evil. I believe that society dictates to us what is right and wrong. We become evil when we do something that we know is wrong by society. If we lived outside of society and never came to understand the right and wrongs then we may do many wrongs but not with the understanding that it is evil. The same argument is used for the mentally insane to separate them from common criminals. Their issue is they do not recognize the wrong or society's view of their actions as wrong. Note, however that although this defines evil it simply leaves good as being the absense of evil, not the performance of deeds accepted by society as "good". |
