Will the iPod mini crash less then the normal iPod (the 20 gig one) when jogging?

I had an original iPod when they first came out. I tired to use it
while running, but no matter how I carried it (backpack, waistband,
pocket, in my hand) it would always crash when I ran. I would have to
hold down the 2 buttons to do a reset and then it would reboot. it
would last 5-20 minutes and eventually crash agaian.

I lost my iPod and need to buy a new one. I have 2 questions.

#1 Will the iPod mini crash less then the normal iPod (the 20 gig one)
when running?
#2 Do they make an armband for the normal iPod (like they do for the
mini) that is exactly like this one?
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001AU6XU/002-2001217-0937658?v=glance

I need to buy on in the next day or two (or three) so please let me know.

thanx in advnce

Hi sherpaj,
When you say "crash", are you referring to an iPod "System crash"
or a "Physical crash"?

Please ignore my request for clarification.

I see now that you are referring to a "System Crash"

Here's what I found out about the armband and possible protection:

"The optional armband lets your body act as shock absorption, but that
might not be enough to protect the iPod Mini's hard drive from the
long-term effects of jogging"

Please let me know if this helps you.

Thanks.

Hi sherpaj,
Did you buy that armband anyway?

I went ahead an ordered an ipod 20gig. Can I change my question to be:

1 - What are some armbands or other devices to make my ipod crash less
when I am jogging? Please send links. Looking to pay under $40.

2 - Is there an alternative to buying the Apple ipod wired remote
control for $40. Is there something wireless (radio, no infared) that
can be used to control it when running?

Hi sherpaj,
I found this product called the Skin Tight Armband, it looks promising. [1]

Product Description:

Comfort fit, Velcro adjustable armband
Cable clips keep cord out of the way

Usage:
Insert iPod into skin
Place armband around upper arm and tighten velcro strap
Snap-in iPod with the skin on
Wrap extra cord around ipod and secure with iPod clips

However, I don't think there are any armbands or devices that will
GUARANTEE your iPod will not crash.

To quote Lisa O'Malley[2]:
""A hard-drive player will always be a hard-drive player, it has
moving parts and there is still the possibility of it skipping,""

About a wireless remote, I found the naviPod for $41.95 (to be exact),
shipping is free (currently) at:

I order a 20gig, not a mini, so the armband wont work. Also, i belive
the navipod is infared. i need a radio based remote for use while
jogging.

I'm considering buying an MP3 player for jogging, so I'm curious to
find out if you've had problems with the iPod while jogging. I was
thinking about buying an iPod Mini until I heard that it wasn't
recommended for jogging.

When owning an iPod, you must make sure to always make sure the
firmware (iPod internal software) is current. This will reduce the
number of crashes. To download the newest version (3.0.2) go to
http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/. Hope this helps!

sherpaj-ga,

In case you haven't heard the news,
the iPod shuffle is out:

Check it out at:
http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/

No display, but at least it's flash based and less prone to crashing.
