This question has several parts. My wife is German and has a business teaching meditation and relaxation techniques in the German speaking areas of Europe. She has developed a CD in German to teach basic meditation practices and would like to sell it in Europe. We have purchased a domain-- www.klaresicht.com --as I would like to develop the site using Yahoo-site builder then open an account on Yahoo America. But, is this a bad strategy? As we both live here and have found out that Yahoo Germany apparently (I may be mistaken) does not have as developed a web store as Yahoo America, we decided to develop the site for a Yahoo America commercial account. 1. Can Germans/Europeans use their credit cards with equal facility on an American site? (I think their cards work like our bank debit cards) 2. Is this site going to be picked up OK on Google Germany searches or must it have a .de or .at (Austria) extension to make the grade? 3. Does Yahoo site builder write such junky code that Google's spiders won't pick it up too well? 3. Can I successfully get the site submitted and listed with Yahoo Germany (after paying the appropriate fee) if it is a .com (even though it will be written completely in German)? 4. Or can you suggest a better strategy for hosting the site to sell CDs over there while we reside here? We have a German bank account if we had to host it there. My wife says it's as cheap to air mail small packages from here to Europe as to store the CDs there and ship to customers within Europe. As well, we need to do the accounts, inventory control, and CD production better here where we live. |

I'm not a Google researcher, but I have some comments for you just the same. Whenever I search the web for anything, inevitably, eBay comes up. I have just looked in my TurboLister program and eBay Germany is in the listing (http://www.ebay.de/). Perhaps you'd list it in this category? http://search.ebay.de/entspannen_Meditation_W0QQcatrefZC11QQsacategoryZ65814QQsorecoZ2 The US version permits selling to Europe, so I cannot imagine that the Germany version does not. Just because eBay is traditionally known for auctions doesn't mean you can't run, say, one auction per week and "feature" it ($20) in order to "advertise" so that people go to your store ($9/month, I think) and buy those you have listed there. I never see a Yahoo store come up when I search the web. Now, the second thing is that everyone knows that the way to make money these days is with information. While you have a CD, perhaps you can put it in downloadable format. That way, there's no shipping fees or anything. When people don't have to pay shipping, they're willing to pay more for the product. The 3rd thing I would do is translate it into english for her. And get it translated into a bunch of other languages. I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, I'm happy to continue a dialog. Or perhaps a researcher will come along and provide exact answers for you. To give you a sample of recorded material on the web, that is NOT compressed (Winzip) like your file could be, you can actually hear ME on the radio on the Computer America show: http://archives.warpradio.com/btr/ComputerAmerica/092222.MP3 Seriously, just trying to give you an idea here. There's far too many commercials for anyone to sit through. If I don't hear from you, the best of luck with your endeavor!! |

A small note, that might support the eBay.de option. - Many Germans do not own an international credit card (only an EC_Card). eBay.de enables them to shop through bank transactions and other means (PayPal, etc.). - Germans are relatively aware of eBay, and the German site is the second, after the American (.com) one, in membership. As a Google Researcher, I'd recommend that you'll separate your questions into different postings. I could answer some of them, while I am not sure that there is an answer for others. |
