Hello Markj~
It's sweet of you to ask.
But picking my favorite song is difficult. It's like asking me to pick
my favorite food. (Okay, it's chocolate.) I have pretty eclectic
tastes: jazz, big band, Broadway, opera, classical...
However, I'll choose a song that has special meaning for me--and will
make you realize what a romantic schmuck I am. It's The 18th variation
on 'Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini' Op. 43 by Sergei Rachmaninoff.
You can listen to a clip of it at this Amazon listing for "Classics at
the Movies:" http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000003F5K/qid=1096560286/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/104-0706387-1391934
When I began dating the man who would become my husband, I made him
sit through the ultimate chick flick: "Somewhere in Time," a film
where The Rhapsody is played repeatedly. Well, I discovered that this
brawny, bouncer-looking fellow I was dating was actually as big a
romantic sap as I was, because he really liked the movie. The next
time we went on a date (actually, I went to his parent's house for
Thanksgiving), he had his dad play the song on his piano. Everafter,
it's been "our song." We were engaged about a month later, and the
song was played at our wedding.
My hubby's of Russian descent, too, so it's especially fitting :)
