Question ID: 408320
I have scheduled a hard drive check through Norton's Disk Doctor. The
C: Drive is not allowing the check to be completed because it is
blocking access. I'm certain it isn't a flaw in the drive, it has
something to do with NTFS security or something. I'm not really so
concerned that the disk check be done now, but I want the disk check
to stop trying to complete itself every time I startup. I've tried
looking for an entry in msconfig, but I don't see anything that looks
like a scheduled disk check. Where can I go to identify the trigger
that is continually asking my computer to perform this check and how
do I disable it?

Hi!!

Please try looking for Ndd32.exe in the registry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and delete any entry calling the Ndd32.exe process.
(do not forget to back up the keys)

Check also the shortcut in the Start -> Programs -> Startup folder as well.

If nothing of this work please post the programs listed in MSCONFIG
window and the content of the registry keys.

Please let me know how this advices work in order to post the answer
or continue the research.

Thank you.

MS Config Startup
EM_Exec
PPControl
zlclient
PPMemCheck
CookiePatrol
TVMon
sgtray
atiptaxx
ccApp
AcctMgr
cli
Mixer
Tea Timer
msmsgs

[there is a blank Item entry for] HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows:Run
Incidentally, there is no matching registry entry for this item's location

I tried all of the other suggestions and I can't find any instances of
ndd32.exe nor can I get the drive to stop checking for errors.

Hello Neo,

Try this one:

Start Menu> Run and type "ndd32" (without the quotes).

In Norton Disk Doctor, click "Options..." and in General tab, uncheck
startup options that says "Start automatically with Windows" then
click OK. NDD will not run anymore next time you start Windows.

If this solves it, please let me know.

Regards,
Feilong

Tried the don't start automatically with windows solution. The option
box was never checked so, that wasn't the problem.

About the uninstall, I don't want to uninstall, I'm trying to find out
how you disable a scheduled disk check manually. Besides, all the
trouble to uninstall and that probably won't do it either.

Try this one:

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools, and then click Scheduled Tasks

Remove the the scheduled task for Norton Disk Doctor by deleting the
specific entry or by right-clicking on the entry > Properties, and
unchecking Enabled on the Task tab.

Please let me know if this solves it.
