I will be in Miami next weekend and was wondering what are the best
snorkeling spots to hit. Also, is this even a good time to go
snorkeling? (October) I will have a rental car an am willing to drive
down to the Keys as well. Besides snorkeling, if you have other
suggestions of must-see places or things to do in Miami, that would be
great.

The Upper Keys are an excellent place to dive, with excellent access
to the John Pennekamp reef, a national park.

I've been diving many times with this outfit.  It's well-equipped has
has a great little bar about 100' from the dive shop:
