Actually it may have been neither George III nor any of the American Founding Fathers who hold the position of being "the most instrumental man in creating America," but Lord North. Frederick North, 2nd Earl of Guilford, was the one who actually did the most to establish policy and create the situation leading up to the American Revolution. While George III supported North's policies regarding the North American colonies, it was still North who originated them. George Washington may be known as the "Father of His Country" but Lord North and his actions certainly qualifies him as the one who was responsible for the 'pregnancy.' Digs |

Either Plato or John Calvin would get my vote. Probably Plato. |

Matt -- I've seen your list. I'd nominate George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and John Adams as a group -- and would rank them in that order. Digs is correct about Lord North but in the England of the time, King George III really carried the big stick. And don't forget that without the French fleet at Yorktown, we'd be watching the Yankees play cricket in the post-season. Winning French assistance in the War of Independence was a key role of both Franklin and Adams. A side note: both Adams and Jefferson died on July 4, 1826. They were the last surviving Founding Fathers. And Adams last words were, "Thome Jefferson survives," though he didn't know that Jefferson (in Virginia) had died hours earlier.
