After installing Win Service pack 2 on my computer which has Windows
XP Home, I had trouble with my IP addresses
and was having a lot of trouble connecting to cable internet. One
thing I tried was to hit "uninstall" for McAffee VirusScan. SOMETHING
happened, but the uninstall was obviously incomplete. I have two
problems now. 1. Whenever I start the computer the McAffee logo
comes up for a few seconds and then I get an error message saying
something like "Error, could not initialize tray icon." Second, when
I go to "Add or Remove Programs" it shows McAffee VirusScan there,
but DOES NOTHING when I hit the "Change or Remove" button. If I just
re-download McAffee Virus Scan I am afraid I will mess things up more.
So how do I get rid of the remnants of McAffee? Or SHOULD I just
re-install it as a download, and will that get rid of everything I
don't want?

dangeisler-ga:

When an uninstall fails like you've described, often the only thing
you can do is run the installation for that program again to fully
re-install the application, then uninstall it again.
