I am native Shanghainese that moved to the USA when I was 14. I am
now looking to move back to shanghai for a few years. I can
speak/read/write both maindarin and english fluently. I have a double
computer science/applied math degree from a prestigious univerisity in
the states. My questions:

1) What kind of jobs can I realistically find (other than to teach
english)? That pay well? That is interesting? (It's not necessary
that it has to be IT/computer related). I actually much prefer
something different from my field of expertise. Like hotel
management? Translation? Things that utilizes
my dual language abilities?

2) What resources (online and offline) can you provide to help me find
those jobs? Where is a good place to start?

3) If I visit shanghai in person, where should I go to obtain more
information related to 1+2) above?

Thanks!!

Hi Pearlina-ga,

There are a few different ways to answer your questions, depending on
what you really want to do. Let's go for the two extremes: would you
come to Shanghai, even if you could only earn a living as a teacher,
in case of emergency? If that is not the case: what would you expect.
The labor situation in China is rather volatile, you need only one
job, so there is always a possibility. But being bilingual is not
really an asset here, and people with degrees are flooding the city.
Maybe you can elaborate a bit more on your requirements.
