Hi GA Community,

I recently heard somewhere that October 22 was some kind of significant date.

I'm wracking my brain trying to find out why October 22 is such a special day.
Can anyone help me out? Shed a light?

Esteemed Researchers and commoners all welcome.

Hi Probo...

Thanks for the input, but I don't think it's something as mundane as
the opening of an opera house.

I even heard somewhere that on October 22 there will be a world wide
observance held and that the date may be declared a national holiday!

I have searched g**gle but alas nothing so far :(

Hi Googlenut!!!!!!!!!

You are right on. Please post your comment as an answer.

Pssst.....we MUST keep this a secret here in the GA Community as I
plan to throw a surprize birthday party for PB.
I'm busy getting my invitation list drawn up.

Hi steph53!!

I won't say any more about PB's birthday. I don't want to blow the surprise.

I'll be looking out for my invitation.

Thanks!

I think I can help on this one:

The Metropolitan Opera House, located on Broadway at 39th Street in
New York City, opened on October 22, 1883, with a performance of
Charles Gounod's Faust, the tale of a German sorcerer who sold his
soul to the devil in exchange for knowledge, power, youth, and love.
The opera, although composed in French and based on Goethe's German
poem, was sung on this occasion in Italian, the favored language of
the Met's early management.

Here are several specialities, though I am pretty sure you didn't mean them:

There is an Indy film called "Oct. 22": <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165409/>

Interesting events happened:
The Millerites (an apocalyptic American group, 19th century), are
disappointed (1844), that the world hadn?t ended, as their leader
prophesised; breakdown of the Cuban Missile Crisis and the first
American casualties in Vietnam (1962, 1957)

Among others, this is the day of the death of Paul Cezanne.

Fascinating people had been born, among them Doris Lessing, Lev
Yashin, Liszt, Thimoty Leary, Jeff Goldblum, and Drazen Petrovic. Are
you among these people, Steph?

Wikipedia on October the 22nd.

There is also an organisation against police brutality, calling itself
"October 22". Their site seems to be down: http://www.october22.org/

Hi, Steph

I suspect that I now know to what you are alluding but, if I am right,
then this is a State Secret, which is probably the reason that
Politicalguru has created a Politicalfog. (Sorry, PG, but I have an
instinct for such things.)

But, entre nous, I understand that Peace Parleys are now taking place
in B*****d and that a certain gentleman has been granted a Royal
Reprieve (signed by QE2 herself). This person (who I can't name for
obvious reasons) will then be appointed President of USA (also by
Royal Proclamation) and the present incumbant will then be appointed
King of I**q,

So, there will be a happy ending after all, like all good fairy stories.

Am I right?

My guess would be October 22, 1962, the date that marked the beginning
of what would later become known as the Cuban missile crisis. On this
date United States President John F. Kennedy announced that the USSR
has a missile installation in Cuba and declares a naval blockade to
prevent missile shipments and, figuratively speaking, scared the world
half to death. This was the first, and most crucial moment that the
world had any tangible evidence that modern nuclear war was a real
probablity.

See if you can find something else significant in one of these sources:

Let me know if you find your date among them.

Hi steph53,

If I am not mistaken, I believe October 22 is the birthday of a very
highly regarded GA customer, sometimes referred to as PB (no, it's not
Pierce Brosnan).

Are you sure you're not thinking of Oct. 23? 10/23 is National Mole
Day, in recognition of Avogadro's number, 6.02 x 10^23. I believe it
lasts from 6:02 AM to 6:02 PM. If you know any chemists, you might
have heard of this.
