i saw a PBS program on this S. American tribe of people who refered to
the rest of the people in the world as "little brother", and the earth
as "mother".they were unknown to the world until they contacted us.
they wanted to know what we had done to mother.their leader ,(who is
selected at birth and raised deep inside a cave all his life ,never
seeing the outside world)had sent some members to a certain mountain
meadow to count flowers . when they returned with the count , he then
sent some men to various parts of the country,ie rivers, sea towns and
cities, etc to find out what little brother (us) had done to mother
(the earth).these people who had never been beyond their village, were
prepared by the leader who had never seen light or the outside of the
cave all his life prepared the men for the journey, telling them where
to go and how to interact with us .when they returned, he then sent
them out to bring back somebody(from the outside world) to tell us
that mother was very very sick, and what had we done to her. 3-4 people
were contacted and were brought back to the village.one of them had a
camera.after hiking many miles on an previously unknown route through
steep mountains, then across a deep gorge spanned by a rope bridge then
few more miles they reached the village.they stayed a couple two or
three days, observing these people. as they followed them to their
field of crops, they noticed days later that even though they had gone
with these people every day to the crops, and had seemingly taken the
same route there were no pronounced trails.only the newcomers(little
brother)began to wear down the foliage underfoot.these people
seemingly were able to not leave permanent damage, even though they
travelled the route many times .everyone in the tribe ,from
childhood, carried with them a rock that had, over the years been rubbed
with a stick i believe until it resmbled a motar and pestal.they
would grind these things together, and then lick the minerals that had
rubbed off onto the stick.they all would be walking around every few
moments would rub and then lick the stick.it seemed to be some sort of
habit.the "little brothers" were then told the story of our
creation, and then of our errant behaviour and how we were spared death
because of it ,by mother, who made big brother leave us alone.there
they stayed hidden from civilization, until the leader, who i believe
was a blind albino, sent men out to count the flowers on that
meadow, because he knew the flowers were dwindling ,less and less
coming back each year.not so blind, being raised in a cave since
birth,he was intimatly in touch with mother.he sensed her anguish and
sadness .he knew she was mortally wounded and wanted to know'WHAT HAVE
YOU DONE LITTLE BROTHER?'.Then the men were asked to leave and tell
the world of mother's ills and of our history.the men were escorted to
the rope bridge, told to leave and never come back.the men were told
to cross the bridge and walk away for a specified time or distance
before stopping to rest. they were told not to ever come back as they
will never find the tribe(big brother).after the time or distance(i'm
not sure)they were to travel before stopping, they stopped and
rested.after talking about what had just happened they decided to
ignore what brother had said and decided to go back.these men equipped
with modern gear(i don't think global positioning satellites were
around then) retraced their steps.to the gorge, but no bridge,no sign
there ever was a bridge, and as they spend much time attempting to find
the brige failed.the approximate location was known, and after they got
back to civilization they attempted many searches, with airplanes and
satellites, but the people(big brother) was never found.a few seasons
later the meadow was found,(we were told of the flowers and the
meadow)yes the flowers were dying off. the hill was studied along with
the flowers, and i believe the scientists blamed pollution for the
death of these flowers.i know i saw this program, i believe on pbs in
the 80's....HERE'S MY QUESTION...............WAS THIS A REAL PROGRAM
OR SOME MOVIE.WHERE CAN i FIND OUT MORE ?I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN

The program is called "The Tribe That Time Forgot." It was produced by
WGBH in Boston and first appeared on the PBS Nova program in 1994.

A camera crew and a Brazilian anthropologist travel deep into the
Amazon basin to locate the extinct tribe, the Arara of the Jaguar
People, and to discover the truth behind the headlines that the tribe
reportedly killed three government mineral prospectors. During their
stay, the Arara share their daily life and customs with the crew and
anthropologist who find the Arara very different from their fearsome
reputation.
