Lokita -- Though still very controversial among historians, there's growing evidence that the early contacts between Europeans and American Indians led to a drastic depopulation of the New World due to the spread of disease. It's an extension of the ideas presented in Jared Diamond's book "Guns, Germs and Steel" and is best exemplified by Charles Mann's 2002 article in The Atlantic Monthly titled "1491": http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/prem/200203/mann Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |
