I remember listening to the CBC Radio show DiscDrive with Jurgen Gothe (www.cbc.ca/discdrive/) in the very late 80's or very early 90's. I heard an electronic Bach peice that I would like help tracking down. I remember Mr. Gothe calling it "Music for Keyboard and Synthorg" by Bob James. I remember going to HMV music store and I remember the clerk finding it in his big CD bible book. i have not been able to find any information about this peice via the Internet. I know that Bob James has done some Bach work but what I found on the 'net does not match closely enough what I remember. Perhaps the information I have about the peice has become distorted in my memory over the past 10+ years. ?????? Title: Music for Keyboard and Synthorg (Zynthorg?) Artist: Bob James Description: Electronc Bach keyboard music. Please help me pin this down. |

Dear augusta, The piece you have in mind was included on Bob James' 1989 album "J.S. Bach: Concertos For Two & Three Keyboards". There can be no doubt about this since the exact titles of the three concertos featured on that album were: 1. Concerto For 2 Keyboards & Synthorch In C Minor, BWV 1060 2. Concerto For 2 Keyboards & Synthorch In C Major, BWV 1061 3. Concerto For 3 Keyboards & Synthorch In D Minor, BWV 1063 Bob James recorded that album together with the pianists Güher and Süher Pekinel; it was released by CBS as part of the Columbia Masterworks series. The album had the number MK-45579. Alas, it is out of print and has not been re-issued yet. Also, it seems to be very rare since I have not found any offers for used copies anywhere. But knowing the exakt title and number of the album should enable you to continue your search more precisely in the future. Thank you for shedding light on this decade old mystery. Now I understand why my searches were unsuccessful. I was spelling "synthorch" as "synthorg" and I used the word 'music' instead of 'Concerto'. I wish there was a Kazaa type service that I could go to to download these pieces. |

augusta -- In 1990, Bob James released a well-received recording of keyboard music of Jean-Phillippe Rameau, another Baroque composer. James used synthesizers on the recording instead of analog keyboard instruments. If you are not completely sure that the recording you had in mind was of Bach works, I would be willing to bet that this is the one you remember: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/music/B00000260Y/glance/103-3213529-3595859 If you agree, I would be happy to try to find a purchasable copy of this out-of-print CD for you. (There was probably also an LP, if that would suit you.) markj-ga |
