For a relative recently diagnosed, I'm trying to find names (and preferably contact info) for the "top" prostate cancer specialists in the world (preferably in the US, UK or Singapore). In particular, urologists who perform surgery or radio oncologists who perform radio therapy. Surgeon contacts are higher priority. In addition, I would like to know the 2 or 3 research institutions (presumably hospitals or universities)who are the most highly regarded in this area. Please provide at least 5 resources (can be mix of Doctors names and institutions or other useful pointers). Thanks! |

A doctor friend of mine in the UK, reckons that the US is more advanced than the UK. I've forgotten his explanation. |

Gold standard for surgery is Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Best surgeon is Patrick Walsh. He's the fellow who originated "nerve sparing" operation that allows erection after the operation (in a large percentage of patients.) I've concentrated on two places for "Robot-assisted" surgery - Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and Cornell / NY Presbyterian in New York. They've both done more than 1,000 cases. Andy Grove of Intel went to Seattle from California for his radiation. Sorry but I don't know where he went. The "Seattle Prostate Institute" claims to be the world leader in seed implant. Hope this helps. |
