and weeks in Britain.
?Not everyone in England will take part in these events. This Calendar
is useful for teachers planning assemblies or other people planning
events on a theme.?

?Black History Month (BHM) is held every October in Britain.?
?1st - Jeans for Genes
4th - World Habbitat Day
4th - World Space Week
5th - World Teachers Day
6th - 12th - National Children's Book Week
National Children's Book Week celebrates the wonderful world of
children's books. It is an annual focus on the enjoyment of reading,
with the aim of encouraging as many children as possible to get into
books.
4th - 8th - Walk to School Week
6th - International Walk to school Day
International Walk to School Day gives children, parents, school
teachers and community leaders an opportunity to be part of a global
event as they celebrate the many benefits of walking.
7th - National Poetry Day
10th - Seed Gathering Sunday
The Tree Council has designated the second Sunday in October as a
special Seed Gathering Day to collect seeds for growing into the new
trees of the future.
10th - Family Learning Weekend
13th - 17th : National School Meals Week
13th - 17th - Geography Action Week
15th - Start of Remadan (Muslim)
15th-22nd - The Big Draw
This annual October Big Draw brings together thousands of people at
hundreds of venues across the UK. They discover that drawing aids
observation, communication and creativity and, above all, gives
pleasure.
16th - World Food Day
21st - Apple Day
24th - United Nations Day
25th - Divali (Hindu and Sikh)
25th - RSPB Feed the Birds Day
The first RSPB Feed the Birds Day to encourage people to start feeding
the birds in their garden as the clocks go back for the autumn.
National Sleep in Day
The Sleep Council's annual reminder that a good bed is important to a
good night's sleep
27th - Start of Ramadan (Islam)
29th - Wear it pink!
Breast Cancer Campaign's fundraising event
31st - British Summer Time ends (Clocks go back one hour)
