How do you tell if Internet Information Services is running? I have a windows xp professional PC SP2 computer that requires it for a certain application to work correctly. I went into into control panel / add remove programs / add remove windows components and thought I had installed IIS correctly, but when I look at the list of installed programs under "add remove programs" I don't see it listed. Thanks. |

IIS is a service. Sorry I don't have access to an XP machine right now, but this is how you get to it on a Win 2000 computer. Look under Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services If it is successfully installed, it should be listed as "Started" |

There's a few different ways to do this: A. At the command line 1. Launch a command prompt (Start > Run... > Cmd) 2. Enter IISRESET /STATUS and press enter (ensure you use STATUS otherwise it will restart the service!) 3. This should return something like: Status for World Wide Web Publishing ( W3SVC ) : Running 4. Note: if not try IISRESET at the command prompt to restart the service B. Using computer management console 1. Go to the MY COMPUTER ICON 2. Right Click > Manage 3. You should see "Internet Information Services" as an item in the final list in the left side tree view There's a few other ways too, post a comment if you have any problems. You wont see IIS in add/remove programs. |

Hi skip9801-ga, Before answering I want to clerify something. Are you sure about what you try to accomplish? Here is my problem: IIS on an XP (pro) machine is not the way to go if you need it to work all the time. On the old Win OS there was PWS (Personal Web Server) that you could work with for a very small volume. On XP it changed and now its called IIS, the same as the havey duty prodct. Now about you questiob - you will not see it on your installed program because it is classified as Windows Component Software but it is a service and as such you control it using Admistrative Tools - Services (under control panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> Admistrative Tools -> Services ) there you will get a list of all the services o you system. find IIS or Internet Information Services. Right Clcick and see what kind of options you have. if Start that means that the IIS is not active. by clicking start it will start working. if you want to set it allways to work, click on properties and in the middle of the scrren there is a combo box (startup type) - just put it on automatic. if you dont see the start just stop or restart that means the IIS is running. if you dont see either of those the IIS startup type maybe disable - you need to change this the way i wrote before. If you are not sure if the IIS is indeed istalled go to control panel -> addqremove programs and choose teh windows componets section (on the left side) and see if there box near the IIS is checked. if not check it. this will install the IIS for sure. If you have more question let me know and we will see where we can go from there. BTW: If hell break loss - I can just connect to your computer by remote desktop and make it work good luck any how, Hilay |
