I keep getting the message 'this program has performed an illegal
operation and will be closed down'. When I click on 'details' I get
'module KERNE 32.DLL at 0177:bff87eb5. followed by a further lot of
incomprehensible symbols. How can I rectify this problem??

Please tell us which program is, which operative system are you using,
etc. The more info we have, the better answer is possible.

Thank you.

I may be way off the mark, but is that not a memory fault? Seem to
recall something similar when pushing PC66 as PC100.

Hi,

'this program has performed an illegal
operation and will be closed down'.
with the error message with the 'module KERNE 32.DLL at
0177:bff87eb5'indicates that some of the system files have been
currupted and could not be recoverable.

The best sugession what I can give you is, Please take the backup of
your data and reinstall the operaing system. This sugession may not
sound good for you. but there is no other way to rectify this
problem...

Try these...
In the root directory of C:\, modify or create a CONFIG.SYS file to
include the following lines:

FILES=65
BUFFERS=40
STACKS=64,512

If the error persists, try adding this line to your SYSTEM.INI file in
the [386Enh] section:

; Increases default stack pages from 2 to 6
MinSPs=6

(The default is 2. If required, increase by increments of 2 until you
find a value that solves the problem. The ; [semicolon] works the same
as REM works in AutoExec.bat.)

Click Edit, Save, Edit, exit. Shut down and restart for the changes to take effect.

Additionally, repeat KERNEL32.DLL errors can often be resolved by
deleting your Windows swap file, WIN386.SWP, and letting it rebuild
itself.

Assumption(You have 98 running)..Let me know if any of these work for
you, or else we find some other solution..

you can try and do this
See if renaming your password list files fixes it. The are located in
c:\windows\ and end with .pwl Those files store all of the passwords
(for various users) Windows has remembered for your internet
connection, etc. If you rename those files and do not restore them,
you will have to reenter the info. If it doesn?t fix the problem,
delete any new .pwl files and rename the previous ones back so they
end in *.pwl. I would like to know if this worked
or
Restore the files
kernel32.dll &
explorer.exe
from win98 setup by the foll. command

c:\win98_setup> extract /a base4.cab kernel32.dll
c:\win98_setup> extract /a base4.cab explorer.exe

now move these files to your windows folder
