Hello theall-ga

Before I start you should be aware that changing the firmware of your
CD/DVD drive to make it region free will invalidate any warranty you
have and may cause permanent damage to the drive.

The firmware you require can be found at these sites:
http://www.powerbook-fr.com/dossiers/dezonage/indexGB.html
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php (search for 8122 and you will find it)

Do you require any further help as to how to install the firmware?
Your question seemed to suggest you only need to know where to
download it. If you do need further help please do not hesitate to
ask for clarification.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to make the CD/DVD drive a DVD
writer as you would require a different laser in the drive to burn the
DVDs.

The following page also has invaluable information in performing the
firmware switching:

got it. thanks help. used the first link, fyi. had tried the second
previously, but it didnt seem to have my correct firmware upgrade.
did use the second one to get regionx, which is necessary to use to
switch regions once firmware has been downloaded. you might want to
mention that next time someone posts a similiar question.

thanks again

Thanks for the extra bit of information. It is difficult to correctly
predict exactly what each customer needs so I am glad I could help.
