I'm working on a electronic-book distribution system for schools in
developing countries. Part of this involves the development of reader
application, capable of displaying XML. Looking for good jumping off
points to save on both time and money developing such an application,
I stumbled across the Mozilla-based Fabula project. Which is very
similar to what we need, and though it appears to have fallen into
disrepair I'd like to see if it would make more sense to concentrate
on reviving it rather than starting from scratch. However,
mysteriously, it is impossible to track down. It's web pages
(www.fabula-eu.org and www.fabula.eu.org) don't work, and the Mozdev
project page for it doesn't have either binary- or source- versions of
it (http://fabula.mozdev.org/). Where can I download the latest
Mozilla-based (I saw some reference to it being moved over to IE, but
that don't work on a Linux platform, so I need the latest Mozillla XPI
version of Fabula Reader and Fabula Maker) sourcecode and binary
versions?

Hi there thesungura

The fabula project has fallen into the "abandoned" category of mozdev,
and doesn't appear to have been worked on for some time. I managed to
get a 2001 build through archive.org, but unfortunately the XPI
doesn't seem to be compatible with modern Mozilla builds (I'm using
the Firefox nightlies, and Moz 1.8 alpha). Nevertheless, I will link
to it here for a few days in the hope that it may be of some use to
you.

One final note: an XPI is simply a zip file containing plain text
javascript and XUL files: the sourcecode itself. There is no binary
form of XPIs!
