The spam in my e-mail and the time needed to remove it keeps growing. While it is difficult to avoid all of it without loosing some useful mail I would imagine that it should be possible to blacklist some keywords such as "sexually explicit" "viagra" "it is me" etc.and thus eliminate some of the spam. How can this be done? I have Norton internet security Internet security. |

Hi Vaac, I've tried lots of things. Recently I installed Spyware Stormer. The basic version is free. Seems to work quite well. I still get crap, but it works like this: It acts as a filter to your real mailbox. All mail is intercepted. If a new or even old mailer sends you a message, you have choices. You can accept all messages from a domain, or reject all messages from same. Give it a go. Phil |

I use Mailwasher It is not that brilliant, but it allows you to preview the stuff before you download it with another Emailer. Also to set up filters and blacklists. Sadly, the real solution is to be change your Email address and be careful who you give it to - and then change it again - after it gets swamped. |

vaac-ga: In addition to the other suggestions offered here, you can consider using a service like www.spamgourmet.com (or similar) and get "throw away" email addresses for shopping and other temperorary purposes. Also, consider using an e-mail program like Thunderbird ( http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/ ) which has intelligent spam filtering build in. I use both of the above and they are both free. -- I am not an official GA researcher. |

Hi, in addition to spamgourmet another nice service is www.mailinator.com. No need to sign up there. Very often you are asked for you email address just to be able to sign up somewhere or download something (get a download-link). Just enter someword@mailinator.com as your email address. The confirmation mail (or download link) is available to you by going to above mentioned site and just log in with "someword". To get rid of the every-day spam I did the following: - I am using Opera Mail (formerly known as M2). The mail client of the Opera Browser. It has a very good (and learning) Spam filter. - In addition to that I asked my provider to install server-based spamfilters on the mailserver. In my case it is Spamasassin and serveral procmail filters. I used to get like 20-50 spam messages a day. Only 1-4/d get through the server-based filters and the rest is filtered by my mail client. I hope this information helps. |
