Google-Answers,

It's always tough to decide what degree, what job, and what life will
fit you best. As I earned my bachelors degree in computer science from
Virginia Tech, I felt as though a position as a software engineer
would fit me best. However, the isolated, highly technical, and
stressful environment has left me craving for something more
rewarding. Since I am just getting started in my career, now is
probably the best time to make a slight career change, and I would
love your help in searching for the perfect job for me.

Before I get into much more detail, here is the skinny on what I would
like from you. I am looking for what other jobs are out there for me
other than ones that directly involve software development.
Additionally, I would like to know what companies (in New Jersey or
D.C. Metro area) might have these positions available for me to apply
for.

I'd like for you to get to know me better. Please take a minute to
look at my resume. You can find it in many different forms at the
following URL:

As you can see, I have a strong background in high and low level
software development. The software development jobs for Argon and
Lockheed were both very mentally stressful and difficult because of
how technically demanding and difficult they were.

I don't mind working with computers even if it?s all day. But
programming can be very tedious and puzzling. At times, I have felt my
desired to work hard and be productive was severely hindered because
of this. I would definitely like to consider some other jobs that
involve some more human interaction (although not necessary), activity
and/or possibly traveling; a job that would allow me to work hard and
show my strong work ethic. Some great examples of ideas that I have
come up with so far that seem extremely appealing to me include the
following (below). These explanations should give you ideas, help you
understand what I am looking for, and teach you more about what makes
me tick.

A Technical Recruiter
This sounds great. I'm a very outgoing person, despite the stereotype,
and love talking with people. This kind of position would allow me to
harness my strong technical background for interviewing / testing
people and working with various software applications for creating
training material and presentation, as well as accommodating my desire
for a little more human interaction and travel (even if travel is
being defined as leaving the building:). I?ve always loved and felt as
though I was good at reading people. I would really love traveling to
colleges and/or career fairs to recruit people for the company I was
working for.

Teacher / Technical Trainer
Whether it is a trade school, community college, training center, or
other area, the classroom environment allows for quite a bit of
freedom. This might be a bit of a stretch given that some states
require a teaching certificate, but I know there are technical / other
companies that hire training people for software or other technical
areas.

Other Human Resources / Public Speaking Position
This probably isn?t possible given my background, but just to let you
know, I definitely wouldn?t mind human resource management and/or
public speaking of any kind.

Computer Hardware (not all)
We?re not talking computer engineering or electrical engineering here.
What I?m referring to is desktop / laptop / other non-engineering
hardware. I?m not sure what the hardware technicians / testers say, at
Dell, get paid, but wouldn?t mind building new computers or something
similar. As a side note, jobs that offer a bit of company process /
proprietary information specific training is definitely a plus. With
the jobs I have had in the past, I basically hit the ground running. I
am confident in my skill set, but would feel that if a company
provided some training for the specific, I could be more confident and
less stressed in my work.

Customer Service / Support
This doesn?t seem nearly as intriguing, but I suppose it has some more
customer interaction. Just an idea.

Please feel free to include these positions in your search, as well as
using your newly acquired knowledge of my psyche to come up with
others. The main roadblock here is the fact that my background, both
college and work, is mostly very technical and software related, of
which most construe as a very anti-social genre of work. Since I can't
afford to go to graduate school, I must do my best to work with my
bachelor?s degree in computer science.

What I?m looking for from you.
* What other options are there for me? What kinds of positions are
there out there that I could qualify for? Obviously I am somewhat
restricted by my major and previous work experience so please take
this into account. I don?t mind going a little bit out on a limb, as I
feel I am a good interviewee and can be persuasive, but please keep my
options realistic. I am flexible with traveling.

* What companies in New Jersey have the positions? Available? I would
prefer jobs that are with a 50 minute driving distance from either
exit 44 on the garden state parkway (Atlantic City area) or 40 minutes
from exit 58 (zip 08092) on the garden state parkway (basically
central and southern NJ). However, I am somewhat flexible if the
opportunity is right! Feel free to provide me with links to
monster.com / careerbuilder.com / etc. links to positions, links to
companies website, direct emails / contact for whomever is in charge
of hiring for a specific position or for hiring in general.

The other area (NJ is preferred slightly) I am looking in is where I
am now. I currently live in Herndon VA. Jobs in Fairfax, Chantilly,
Centerville, Reston, Sterling, Asburn, Leesburg, Vienna, or
surrounding, preferably further westward areas as I absolutely detest
traffic so please keep this in mind (as well as my initial preference
for NJ).

* I do have school loans and other liabilities. These jobs must be at
least in the low to mid $40?s per year (I?m getting paid about $55,000
per year now and, of course, the closer to this the better).

* Am I missing something? If there is any other information you think
I need, please feel free to provide it.

Please, please feel free to contact me, as questions, etc. My AOL
instant message name is oliviaprotector. All other contact information
is on my resume, and you are more than welcome to use it (including
the phone).

Oh, and if I were to get a job from the information you provide, it
would be my pleasure to tip you generously.

I do appreciate all your help. Maybe you could get me a job like yours! Thank you.
