I am looking for informatioin illustrating the amazing pheonoma called
the egg shell. Specificly, I am looking for details (in lay mans'
terms) how the shape is perfectly formed to support the weight of the
mother bird, how it is an ideal protective source....
One prime example is the effect of DDT on the formation of the egg
shell. It seems, that before the ban on DDT usage, many birds of the
wild were on the verge of extinction, because their shells were being
formed with out enough thickness, so that when the mother would sit on
it, it would collapse. I would like that verified, and I would like to
know the difference in the thickness, (I guesss measured in
micrometers.) I am looking for details about the effect of DDT on the
egg shell.I would also like to know more about the production of the
egs shell within the mother bird. |
