Hello,

I am a soldier stationed at a US embassy in Africa, and my Microsoft
Xbox is not working. I am not getting any video other then a slight
orange distortion on my screen, but the unit otherwise works fine as
you can hear the sounds of the games.

At first I thought I had a bad cable, so I ordered a new AV cable.
That was not the problem as I continue to get no video.

The game system was working perfecting until of all of sudden I had no
video. This is my second Xbox. My first Xbox died when a lighting
bolt hit our compound. This Xbox is on a surge protector, and I don?t
believe it?s electrical (my computer I am using at my home works great
using a 220 volt surge protector ? xbox is using a step down
transformer and surge protector.)

I played around with my TV, I do not believe it is the settings, as I
tried all of them. My VCR, 8mm player, DVD work great, but the Xbox
is not showing any video, so that may be the problem. I have a
Toshiba TV.

My question is, what can I do to get video back to my Xbox

The costs associated with shipping exceed the price of what it would
cost to buy a new unit. There are no repair facilities located in my
area that can fix it.

Would I would like to know

1)	Is there a simple TV setting that perhaps I am overlooking ?
2)	Is there a video unit inside I might be able to repair or
possiblely switch out the old video unit from my fried unit to the
next Xbox?
3)	Any other suggestions for repairing the xbox?

One other note, for some strange reason, I cannot get the Microsoft Xbox webpage.

Thanks

Jeff

ironfox-ga:

A couple of questions for you, might help in getting to the bottom of the issue.

- Are you using the standard AV cable, with three RCA connectors
(video, audio left and right)?

- Does your VCR have inputs that would work with your XBox cable? If
so, have you already tried to connect the XBox through the VCR?

- Assuming that you are using the standard AV cable with your XBox and
TV, does your TV also have other inputs that you are using with your
other equipment? If so, what are they?

- Is there another TV at the embassy that you can test your XBox with?

Thanks,

Yes - I am using the RCA connectors. It worked fine before for awhile
before I lost video.

- Does your VCR have inputs that would work with your XBox cable? If
so, have you already tried to connect the XBox through the VCR?

Yes, I have tried to connect using the inputs through the VCR.

- Assuming that you are using the standard AV cable with your XBox and
TV, does your TV also have other inputs that you are using with your
other equipment? If so, what are they?

One is on the back and the other is on the front, tried both unsuccessful.

- Is there another TV at the embassy that you can test your XBox with?

Perhaps, but it is a pain. Other devices such as my VCR, 8mm player,
DVD player work fine using the RCA connectors. Only the Xbox video is
not working.

From what you've described, then, it looks like it is the graphics
adapter in the XBox that has died. If the same video inputs on your TV
work with your other devices, then it isn't the TV.

As you'll see from this pictorial tour, everything is essentially
integrated into a single motherboard inside the XBox:

So the only thing you might be able to do is take the motherboard from
your original unit (as long is it wasn't fried along with the power
supply) and swap it with the motherboard in the second unit. I won't
recommend you do this, as it will obviously void your warranty.

Hi, I don't think this will help that much, but check the port in your
Xbox to make sure all pins are there. If they are, I guess you'll have
to ask your family to send you a new one. But if I were you I'd go
with the new slim PS2 :P
