Processing, Machine Learning, Data Mining ( statistical analysis and
programming not involving SQL or SAS but simply hardcore programming
of statistical algorithms). Note this definitely involves programming
(described in b) and sometimes research.
a) Synonymous terms or different areas that might be useful
Computer Vision, Machine Vision, Machine Learning, Pattern
Recognition, Object Detection.
Robotics (not controls)
Image Processing ,Medical Image Processing, Image Registration, Image Segmentation.
Data Mining,Statistical Analysis, Statistical Programming

C++, C, Matlab
Some comments that might be helpful:
Sometimes positions are described as ?Programmer? ,? I.T analyst?,
?Research Programmer?, ?Scientific Programmer?, ?BioInformatics
position?,?Medical Imaging Research Associate?
Carnegie Mellon Univ has several positions which can give you idea of
what I want I have put in a link below as well.
I know of two Vislist and other OpenCV group in yahoo. I have checked
out the image processing groups in Google however they are not very
active. Often some academic postings are there in such discussion
groups.
Question :
1) I would like to have a list of academic research labs, research
based and/or non profit organizations or people who are hiring (in
above mentioned areas) and are WILLING to sponsor H1b visas.
I am not looking for government or commercial companies as they do not
sponsor H1b visas. I have used websites like career builder, monster,
hot jobs, direct employer.
I would prefer not to have contacts of hiring firms as I am a bit wary
of what they ask in return unless, you feel it could be a good match
to my areas and interests.
An example of academic position(s) can be seen at
https://acis.as.cmu.edu/gale2/open/servlet/cmujobs?Form_Name=DisplayJob&opening_id=91408&category_id=&who=applicant
Feel free to let me know for any clarifications as I would like to be
as clear as possible
