Hi

I'm in the middle of writing a report for one of my marketing
assignments. We were to come up with a product to market. The one I
came up with was a keychain that is linked to your car, and it has an
arrow which points in the direction that your car is parked. (Kind of
like a compass, and the north pole is your car, hope thats a good
enough explanation)

I have a few questions based on that:
1) Are there any competitors that market a product similar to this?
(I have been looking for over an hour, and could not find anything!!
Thats why I need the help of an expert)
2) If there isn't any competing products, is there any reason why this
hasn't been implemented?
3) Are there any substitute products? (right now i can think of the
carlock keychains on higher model cars that toot the horn and flash
the lights when you press the door lock button

4) How feasible is this to produce? I'm thinking all you need is a
transmitter and a reciever which are pretty cheap?

Thanks!

Just a comment ..

Would rather have something that would find the remote control every
time my kids or the (no me's) loose it. They used to have a device
where you could whistle and it would beep but you had to attach this
bulky item to the remote.
I would like to see something small and with a button pager. Such as a
cordless phone pager (finder).

Thanks
Steve

Hi Dime,

What a fantastic idea! No answers for you yet, but a mini Think Tank
here with others might lead you to what could be obvious in hindsight.

As GPS may become more common in new cars, could your receiver be
incorporated within the system?

As mobile (cell) phones display the coverage area on the display.
Could your mobile car "cell" transmit the grid info to your receiver?

Aircraft use more than one system of detection. One of them is ACARS.
I can send a text message from my work computer to an aircraft,
addressing it using the aircraft's registration. I can track the
aircraft, to a point, by reading the OOOI time. That is, Out, Off, On
and In. Or pushback, airbourne, landing and on chocks times.

Cargo companies use a bar-code system to keep track of consignments.
Each time the package changes hands, the bar-code is swiped. If an
item goes missing, it can at least be tracked to the last point of
handling.

You need something more accurate however. When you find it, let me
know. I am considering micro-chipping my pre-teenage daughter! :)
