I find that I often need to make very simple database driven websites
for stuff where it just isn't worth it to code up a full blown system
in PHP or ASP. Think page for
who-is-bringing-what-to-the-kindergarden-pot-luck-dinner.

I'm looking for a super simple tool that will let me build these sites
very quickly. I don't nessisarily need lots of control, just the
ability to enter a few fields, draw the forms, maybe add some queries
and stuff like that.

Back in the good olde DOS days, I used stuff like Alpha4 and FoxPro
for building (drawing?) quick database apps. I'd like to replicate
that same idea now for the web.

I'm looking at Alpha5 (alpha5 software) right now and it looks pretty
interesting, but I feel like there *must* be some mainstream
application out there that does this and I'd much rather learn something
with like 10 million users than get hooked on Alpha5.

Also, since I already have an IIS 6.0 server running, it would be great
to find a tool thats output was ASP.NET or something like that. Alpha5
uses it's own internal web server.

Any ideas?

thanks,
josh

Hey there,

I do not know of any software that does what you just described. I
agree it would be nice though! Hmm, maybe I should write some.

Anyway, one tool that I have found very handy in coding databases
quickly is phpMyAdmin (http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/). It
allows you to create the database quickly and easily as well as
showing you the code to use for query's etc.

I hope this helps!

Hi Josh,
Im an ASP developer of 8 years experience, so ive often come across
some tools that are better than others.
There is a site run by an English guy who has many tools to do
exactley what you are after an much more.
please check out http://www.webwizguide.info
There are different solutions and you will definatley find in there
what you are after. The code is easily laid out so you can alter any
of the queries to match what you are after etc. Additionally, of
course, its also in ASP!

Hope this helps, let me know!

Wow, Web Matrix is _exactly_ what I was looking for!

No coding, WYSIWYG, database connectivity, runs on IIS. Perfect!

Please repost your comment as an answer.

Thanks!
