Dear Jim, It is a scam. It is a fraud. Do not contact this bank or have any further communication with them or whoever contacted you. I speak from my experience: I am a retired police officer who served 15 years with the Fraud Squad, New Scotland Yard, dealing with this type of crime. These people are trying to extract money from you. They will ask you for more money for so-called lawyers? fees, security clearance documents, customs fees, deposit to open a bank account, and they will ask you to travel to another country to collect the money. There, they will extract more money from you. The list is endless. It only stops when you refuse to pay anymore. I warn you however, that they are very persuasive, and I recommend that you have no further communication with them. I have known victims to lose thousand of dollars in this fraud ? even though they suspected it was a fraud. These law enforcement sites will provide background information on this fraud. New Scotland Yard http://www.met.police.uk/fraudalert/419.htm US Secret Service http://www.secretservice.gov/alert419.shtml Why do I give this answer? The bank is not registered with the UK?s Financial Services Authority and is therefore committing a serious criminal offence. http://www.fsa.gov.uk The telephone number supplied is a mobile telephone. The post code is incorrect The domain name of certitudetrustuk.com was only registered on 23 September 2004. The registrant is an individual in Nigeria (probably a false name). The contact email for the registrant is an yahoo email. The site copyright states 2003. Domain registration: Created on: 23-Sep-04 Kelly Martins Eleganza Building 7th floor Adeyomo street Lagos 0000 Nigeria Andre4dans@yahoo.co.uk Source http://www.whois.sc/certitudetrustuk.com There a number of others discrepancies that I could point out to you. Also there is Probonopublico's comments below (although I would not recommend this approach). All of this indicates to me that it is a fraud. Once again do not contact these people. Do not hesitate to ask for clarification of any of this. Thank you answerfinder Search strategy Personal knowledge and known web sites. |

Beware! According to my database, there isn't such an address as 77 Plumstead Road and there is no such Post Code as 28SE 4DH. There is a 99 Plumstead Road whose Post Code is SE18 7DN. As you may know, UK Post Codes always start with characters, not numbers. Also addresses that are close typically have the same first 3 or 4 digits, often more. As you will appreciate, the telephone number is for a Mobile. I phoned the number last night and I did suspect that the man who answered might be Nigerian. I spoke to him about some mythical deal that I had for him worth £10 million and he seemed interested. Worth reporting! Over too you. All the Best Probo |

Hi, Jim Have looked at the site and YES it's yet another Nigerian scam but I have never seen this one before. They are almost certainly operating illegally because, as Answerfinder has advised, all UK banks and 'depositaries' have to be authorised by the FSA. Do not trust them with ANYTHING, not even your bank account details. If you have already done so, advise your bank, etc. IMMEDIATELY. I would be interested to know how they operate. Ask yourself, would a reputable bank work from a false address and give a mobile as a telephone contact? Probo |

Wow, Answerfinder I never knew that you were an ex-cop! I used to have an involvement with the Computer Crime Unit which, I suppose, is no more. Small world. All the Best Bryan |

Further two AnswerFinder's and Probono's excellent advice, you might be interested in looking at this site: www.419eater.com It is the home of about 2000 people Worldwide who have taken it on themselves to make 419 scammers lives a misery, partly by wasting their time and pulling their tails, and partly by launching web attacks against fake banks. Curiously 419 scam (Advanced Fee Fraud) appears to be primarily Nigerian in origin, and is reputed to be Nigeria's biggest export earner after oil. It is incredibly difficult to quantify the annual take as the majority of fraud victims are embarrassed, however the operation is well organized, pretty high tech and has tendrils that reach out over most of the World. Look up this plumstead road on www.multimap.com and you'll see its not likely to be a major world bank... actually, its very close to Belmarsh Prison (one of the most high security in the UK)... they could be operating from inside... naughty nigerians! |
