Well I was wondering does anyone know the rules and regulations for
Conjugal visits in CA State Prisons. What I'm trying to really find
out is why would someone be denied from having them when they have
never been convicted of sexual or domestic violence crimes and they
are not doing life in prison?

Hello mjfire-ga,

It would seem that different state prisons and areas of the prisons
have diffrent regulations in CA for conjugal visits. For example, SHU
sometimes does not get conjugal visits. Could I ask which prison you
are referring to? The more details you can provide, the more we can
help you.

Okay he is at Sierra Conservation Camp in Jamestown, CA. First they
told him he was eligibl;e then they said no because of something that
was on his police report. He was convicted of possession of a firearm
and we looked at the police report and we can't find anything. I know
that when it's a sex crime or domestic violence you are denied but he
doesn't have any of that. So I was wondering if there were any other
reasons to be denied.

Hello again,

This sounds pretty specific to his case. What was the item listed on
the police report that they denied him for? Do you know what specific
charge it was?

What are the charges upon the police report as well so we can
investigate all of those possibilitites of you do not know the
specific charge they denied him for?

Oller

"It is simply outrageous that convicted prisoners are allowed to have
unsupervised overnight visits while their victims or the families of
their victims are suffering," said Oller. "Prison should be
punishment, not a picnic. Prison officials have told me that very
often these visits are the avenue by which drugs get into the prison
system. It's high time to stop this nonsense."

It appears they have stopped doing them as of 5/29/97
